Our Dual Diagnosis Program
Medication Management for Recovery
At Northstar Recovery Center, our on-staff psychiatric nurse practitioner provides medication management services as part of an integrated treatment plan for individuals facing substance use disorders, mental health conditions, or both.
Whether you’re exploring Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for addiction or need support managing anxiety, depression, or another mental health diagnosis, our team is here to ensure that your medication care is informed, personalized, and closely monitored.
What is Medication Management?
Medication management is a collaborative process that ensures any psychiatric or addiction-related medications are prescribed and adjusted appropriately based on your symptoms, history, and goals. At Northstar, our psychiatric nurse practitioner works alongside your clinical team and primary care physician to:
- Evaluate and diagnose psychiatric symptoms
- Prescribe medications to support mental health or recovery
- Adjust dosages as needed for safety and effectiveness
- Monitor side effects and progress over time
- Provide education so you understand your treatment
- Coordinate with your clinical care team
This service helps ensure that medication is not only safe but truly helpful in your journey.
Northstar Recovery Center
Medication Management for Addiction, Mental Health & Dual Diagnosis
For substance abuse disorders, we provide Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) when clinically appropriate. MAT combines FDA-approved medications—such as Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone), naltrexone, or others—with therapy and behavioral support to reduce cravings, prevent relapse, and support long-term recovery.
Our team offers MAT for individuals recovering from:
- Opioid use disorder
- Alcohol use disorder
- Other substance dependencies, as appropriate
For Mental Health conditions, medication management can also support individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or other psychiatric symptoms. We help you find the right balance of therapeutic support and psychiatric care to improve quality of life and overall functioning.
For Dual Diagnosis, when both addiction and mental health challenges are present, medication can help stabilize mood, reduce distress, and create the clarity needed to fully engage in therapy and recovery. Our approach ensures that all parts of your treatment plan work together, not in isolation.
