Do I Have PTSD?

PTSD can stem from a wide range of experiences including military combat, assault, childhood abuse, medical trauma, accidents, or witnessing violence. It doesn’t matter how long ago it happened or how you compare it to others’ experiences. If it affects the way you live, it matters.

If you’ve been struggling with any of these, you deserve support that’s rooted in empathy, safety, and science.

Common Symptoms of PTSD Include:

  • Nightmares or intrusive thoughts about the traumatic event
  • Flashbacks or dissociation (feeling detached from reality)
  • Avoidance of reminders, people, or places connected to the trauma
  • Heightened startle response or constant hypervigilance
  • Emotional numbness, shame, or a sense of disconnection
  • Difficulty sleeping, concentrating, or regulating emotions
  • Persistent fear, guilt, anger, or sadness
  • Abusing substances to escape

Our Trauma-Informed IOP for PTSD

Northstar Recovery Center is proud to provide flexible mental health treatment in Massachusetts for individuals with PTSD and other disorders. Our treatment programs operate exclusively on an outpatient basis, with day, partial-day, virtual intensive outpatient treatment, and hybrid scheduling options available.

Trauma Therapy

Northstar Recovery Center utilizes an impressive range of trauma therapy types. Trauma therapy for addiction and PTSD at Northstar Recovery may involve modalities such as on-site eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT).

Group Therapy

Group therapy is an important part of our programs. We offer specialized groups, like grief groups, sound healing, and yoga, that can support your healing journey in unique ways. Additionally, groups like our dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) groups teach essential skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and communication, which can be beneficial for trauma survivors.

Individual Therapy

Clients at Northstar Recovery participate in individual therapy at least once per week. In individual therapy sessions, you will have the chance to work with a therapist one-on-one, which will allow you to share details, process trauma, and work toward your personal goals in ways you might not be comfortable with in group settings.

Family Therapy

Some trauma survivors benefit from family therapy sessions, which involve meeting with a therapist and members of your immediate or extended family. We offer family therapy in Massachusetts for clients who wish to incorporate it into their treatment plans.
