Our intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) are the next step down from day treatment, but the same personalized and effective approach is used. The IOP in Massachusetts at Northstar offers flexible care, meeting 3-6 days per week (depending on your needs) for three hours per day. If you’re entering IOP, you can choose from multiple schedules: 

• Mornings (9:00 AM to noon)
• Afternoons (12:30 PM to 3:00 PM)
• Evening IOP (5:30 PM to 8:30 PM in West Springfield or 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM in Southborough) 

Some people begin their treatment journey in IOP. Others step down to IOP after completing day treatment. We’ll work with you to find the right starting point when you reach out to us about getting help at our centers.

In addition to our in-person recovery programs, Northstar Recovery Center is proud to offer virtual addiction treatment in Massachusetts, covered by Detego Health and other insurances. Virtual sessions are held on a secure online platform, giving you convenient care you can trust. Options include a fully virtual PHP, a fully virtual IOP, and hybrid scheduling. 

People look for mental health treatment for many different reasons. Some have a mental health condition, like an anxiety disorder. Other people need help navigating interpersonal relationships, changes in their lives, or something else. We offer mental health treatment in Massachusetts covered by insurance, supporting people with concerns, including but not limited to:

• Anxiety disorders.
• Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
• Life transitions and adjustment. 
• Grief and loss.
• Depression.
• Trauma.

Like our addiction treatment services, Northstar Recovery Center offers in-person, virtual, and hybrid mental health services.

A significant portion (about 35 percent) of people with a mental health condition also have a substance use disorder or vice versa. When the two co-occur, it’s important that treatment providers address both. This is called integrated or dual-diagnosis treatment, which has been shown to produce better health outcomes for people with co-occurring conditions. Our dual-diagnosis treatment centers in Massachusetts provide integrated care for mental health and addiction, covered by insurance. Dual-diagnosis care is available at all care levels at Northstar Recovery Center, both in-person and online.

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based approach. It works by combining medications for addiction with therapy and counseling services. There are different types of prescription medication for substance use disorders. Each type of medication for addiction works in its own way, leading to benefits like reduced drug cravings or withdrawal symptoms. We provide MAT in Massachusetts, covered by insurance, for clients who find that it’s the right fit for their personal recovery journey.

During the initial stages of addiction recovery, people may experience mild to severe withdrawal symptoms. Northstar Recovery provides sub-acute (outpatient) detox when appropriate, but if a person has moderate to severe withdrawal symptoms, inpatient detox may be required. We can refer you to an inpatient drug detox center nearby if needed. Our team will take care of everything, from insurance verification to helping you make a smooth transition into one of our therapy programs once you’re ready.
