Northstar Recovery’s intensive outpatient program (IOP) in Massachusetts is the next step down from day treatment. Depending on their current needs, IOP clients can usually expect to participate in therapy sessions 3-4 days per week. We offer three IOP schedules:

• Mornings (meeting from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM).
• Afternoons (meeting from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM).
• Evenings (meeting from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM in Southborough and 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM in West Springfield).

This allows clients to balance responsibilities, such as work or college classes, with addiction therapy. Some clients start their treatment journey with IOP, whereas others step down to one of our IOP schedules after finishing day treatment to ease their transition into typical daily life. 

In addition to our in-person drug rehab programs, we offer virtual addiction treatment in Massachusetts covered by EmblemHealth. This includes a fully virtual partial hospitalization program (PHP), a fully virtual IOP, and hybrid scheduling (a mixture of in-person and online therapy sessions). Clients receiving virtual care at Northstar participate in sessions via a secure telehealth platform. Just as you’d expect in an in-person recovery program, virtual treatment provides groups, individual therapy, medication management, family therapy, and relapse prevention.

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based, highly beneficial approach for many people with substance use disorders. MAT combines FDA-approved medications, which vary in type and use, with addiction therapy to support positive treatment outcomes. We provide MAT in Massachusetts covered by insurance, with a clinical team and psychiatric nurse practitioner on staff to carefully evaluate each client and help them choose the right approach to treatment.
