OxyContin Addiction Treatment in Massachusetts | Northstar Recovery Center

At NorthStar Recovery Center, we know that addiction is a disease that both prescription medications and illegal drugs can cause. Therefore, we support many different kinds of addiction, including OxyContin addiction. Our team of health care professionals can help you to recover from substance use disorder and find hope when you are struggling with addiction.

What Is OxyContin?

OxyContin is a narcotic, oxycodone hydrochloride, prescribed as a pain killer. It is a legitimate prescription that is used to treat pain related to injury, surgery, arthritis, cancer, and more. When individuals use OxyContin, they experience a decrease in their pain and euphoric effects that are similar to heroin. This is because both are the same class of drugs, opioids.

While OxyContin is a legal prescription, it is also used illegally. In its legal forms, it is prescribed in tablet forms. However, when abused, it can be crushed and snorted or injected.

Why OxyContin Addiction Is a Serious Concern

While OxyContin can be used in a helpful way, by using it as prescribed, substance use disorder is a disease that requires drug rehabilitation. When an individual abuses OxyContin, it travels through the bloodstream to the brain, where it interacts with receptors. These receptors are naturally occurring, helping individuals to decrease pain response, manage stress, and regulate breathing. Binding to these receptors makes OxyContin an effective pain killer.

However, opioids also bind to receptors in the reward centers of the brain. This interaction is what causes the euphoric response and makes an individual feel very good when taking OxyContin. The pleasure-seeking or reward centers of the brain help individuals to be rewarded for behavior that helps them to survive, such as eating, connecting with a community, and more. OxyContin causes a much larger pleasurable response than these activities and, as a result, overrides the drive for healthy behaviors.

Addiction to OxyContin is a very serious condition. It is a disease that requires drug rehabilitation at a qualified treatment center. At NorthStar Recovery Center, we offer a way out of substance abuse. Seeing the signs and symptoms of opioid addiction is the first step. Signs and symptoms of OxyContin addiction include:

  • Continues use of OxyContin after prescription has ended
  • Needed more OxyContin quicker than prescribed
  • Decrease in performance at school or work
  • Attempting and failing to stop using OxyContin
  • Secrecy or abnormal behavior

The Opioid Epidemic in Massachusetts

In 2020, in Massachusetts alone, more than 2,000 people died due to opioid overdose, and even more from opioid-related deaths. As time goes on, more and more individuals struggle with opioid addiction, both to prescription and illegal drugs. At NorthStar Recovery Center, we know that part of the answer is offering drug rehabilitation for those affected. As a result, we offer holistic rehab services for opioid addiction, including OxyContin addiction.

OxyContin’s Role in the Opioid Crisis

In the opioid crisis, OxyContin plays a significant role. As a longer-lasting prescription opioid, Oxycontin is more addictive than other prescription options. The trend of OxyContin abuse obtained both legally and illegally contributes to the crisis both in Massachusetts and in the United States as a whole.

Challenges in Seeking Help

While it is known that Oxycontin is highly addictive, many individuals struggle to seek help. Being addicted to an opioid can feel like an endless loop. Individuals are looking to feel better when experiencing drug withdrawal but are driven to continue to return to the drug as a way to decrease their discomfort.

As a result, drug rehabilitation is necessary to heal. This means seeking help, which, from the surface level, is simple, but in reality, is very hard. To look for help, individuals must first see that they need help, which they do; addiction is a real disease that hijacks the brain and requires drug detoxication, therapy, and rehab. At NorthStar Recovery Center, we know that addiction is difficult to recover from and that OxyContin Addiction is a dark place. We offer a guiding light that supports clients from their initial call to recovery.

Comprehensive OxyContin Addiction Treatment at NorthStar Recovery Center

At NorthStar Recovery, our comprehensive OxyContin addiction treatment program is effective in helping clients discover lasting recovery. We are a holistic treatment center, offering a tailored treatment program for each client and integrating family-centered care in a manner that is effective in aiding the recovery process.

Tailored Treatment for Lasting Recovery

OxyContin addiction is a disease that is found in individuals of many ages and socioeconomic statuses. Each client who struggles with OxyContin addiction has their own story. For some, their challenges with a dual diagnosis, both mental health disorders and addiction, are a primary factor. However, others have a history of trauma that plays a role.

At NorhtStar Recovery Center, we know that each client’s story is an important part of healing. When we factor in the client’s story, we can find and address the root causes of their challenges with addition. As such, we tailor each of our client’s treatment programs. We treat clients as individual people seeking to find their needs and support them in their journey to recovery.

Family-Centered Care

While we treat individuals, we know that behind each client is a family unit. This can be a biological family or a family that is built through an individual’s life. By addressing the community behind the client, we support change within the entire system. In family-centered care at NorthStar Recovery Center, clients are treated as part of our family. Their families are integrated into the treatment plan in a manner that supports the client’s recovery, helping the entire family system to heal.

    WHO WE ARE

Northstar Recovery Center in Southborough, MA is made up of a team of experienced, dedicated, and compassionate addiction treatment professionals. We want to see our community heal from the effects of the opioid epidemic, alcohol addiction, and other substance use disorders.

Our Holistic Approach to OxyContin Addiction Recovery

OcyContin addiction is a disease that impacts a client’s entire life. Their mental health, physical health, and ability to function are all greatly diminished. At NorthStar Recovery, we offer a holistic approach to rehab for OxyContin addiction that addresses each client as a whole person. We do so by offering a variety of therapeutic modalities that aim to support each client on their journey to recovery.

    Therapeutic Modalities Offered

Our treatment program is founded on behavioral therapies, which include both cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Both CBT and DBT focus on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions. While CBT and DBT differ, they help clients make changes by interrupting patterns that have supported their addiction.

In addition, we offer both individual and group psychotherapy. While each has specific benefits, both aid clients in improving their awareness levels, addressing deep emotions, and ultimately recovering from addiction. Individual and group therapy varies for each client, depending on their needs.

Finally, we offer a range of holistic treatment options. These include breathwork, meditation, and more. Our holistic treatments provide ways for clients to heal their minds and body while building skills that improve stress management and reduce their relapse risk.

    EMDR and Trauma-Focused Treatment

Trauma and addiction commonly go hand in hand. At NorthStar Recovery Center, we know that if a person has a history of trauma, this needs to be addressed alongside their challenges with addiction. Therefore, we offer trauma-focused treatment and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). Both of these treatments help clients process their trauma, understand how it has impacted them, and begin to heal. Recovering from trauma and addiction is a long road, but with help, it is possible.

NorthStar’s Levels of Care for OxyContin Addiction

Oxycontin addiction is serious. It disrupts an individual’s life in significant and dangerous ways. However, every case of addiction is unique, and every client’s needs are different. Therefore, at NorthStar Recovery, we offer multiple levels of care. Each level of care offers a unique amount of structure and support in order to provide options for each client.

Day Treatment (Partial Hospitalization Program – PHP)

At NorthStar Recovery Center, we offer a partial hospitalization program (PHP). Our PHP program offers a high level of support and care. It is highly structured, providing clients with daily schedules that they must adhere to.

The structure and support provided in PHP are ideal for clients who are struggling with addiction and need to focus wholly on their recovery. At NorthStar Recovery Center, client’s schedules vary depending on their needs. However, the entire schedule is oriented around what will best help them to successfully recover from substance use disorder and mental health challenges.

    Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

The next level of care at NorthStar Recovery Centers is our intensive outpatient program (IOP). IOP is still highly structured but includes less support than PHP. While clients are still required to attend treatment, they are monitored less and spend more time outside of treatment, working, or at home.

IOP is an ideal level of care for individuals who are ready to step down from PHP or inpatient treatment but are not ready to leave care. However, it is also a level of care that works well for individuals who require more flexibility due to work or home responsibilities and feel they are able to recover with less structure.

    Virtual Day Treatment

At NorthStar Recovery Center, we know that every client’s needs are unique. Therefore, we offer our lowest level of care, virtual day treatment. While clients still receive top-notch care, virtual day treatment offers the opportunity for clients to call into treatment without having to travel. They are allowed to participate in both individual and group sessions while in the comfort of their homes.

Virtual day treatment is ideal for clients who cannot attend treatment in person due to their circumstances. It provides the lowest level of support compared to PHP and IOP. However, it offers a unique option for clients looking for flexible support and care.

    Aftercare and Relapse Prevention

At NorthStar Recovery Center, it is our goal to provide clients with the tools they need to be successful in their recovery. Therefore, we offer significant relapse prevention and aftercare programs. These help clients build the skills they need to be successful in their recovery long-term.

    Building a Relapse Prevention Toolkit

Relapse prevention occurs throughout treatment at NorthStar Recovery. Our therapeutic modalities aim to help clients build a foundation of awareness and other skills that help them to make positive choices for themselves. While each client is unique, every client leaves with a more clear understanding of their path toward addiction and how they can maintain the changes they made.

    Alumni Support and Continued Care

As part of all of our programs, clients are offered continued care and support. Many clients choose to step down each level of care, continuing to get support as they integrate back into their lives after treatment. However, once leaving treatment, clients are encouraged to continue to participate in alumni groups, peer support, and more.
