At Northstar Recovery Center, we’ve always believed that recovery is about treating the whole person—not just the symptoms. Until now, our focus has been on addiction and dual diagnosis care, where mental health treatment was integrated into substance use disorder programs. But as of Monday, June 2, 2025, we’re proud to announce the launch of a dedicated Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)—offering targeted care for individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health challenges, with or without co-occurring substance use.
This is more than just an expansion of services. It’s a deepening of our vision.
Our Vision:
We aim to be a beacon of light in the darkness of substance and mental health disorders, where every individual and family may discover hope for a better future.
What is a Mental Health IOP?
A Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program offers a middle ground between inpatient hospitalization and traditional outpatient therapy. It’s designed for individuals who need consistent, structured care but also need to be present for other responsibilities—whether that’s work, school, parenting, or caregiving.
Why Launch a Dedicated Mental Health IOP?
In short, we’ve seen the need firsthand. Whether it’s young adults facing intense academic and social pressures, parents and caregivers overwhelmed by responsibility, or uniformed professionals silently carrying the weight of secondary trauma—many people in our community are struggling, and need something more than once-a-week therapy. They need real structure, connection, and tools that work.
That’s exactly what our Mental Health IOP delivers, and we’re uniquely positioned to help.
What We Treat
Mental health doesn’t fit into a single box—and neither should treatment. Our IOP provides care for a wide range of emotional and behavioral challenges, including:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Trauma & PTSD (including EMDR therapy)
- Grief & Loss
- Life Transitions & Adjustment
- Co-occurring Mental Health & Substance Use
You don’t need to have a formal diagnosis to get started. If something just doesn’t feel right—if you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like yourself has gone missing—we’re here to help.
Who We Serve
At Northstar Recovery Center, our Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is open to adults 18 and older from all backgrounds, offering personalized care that meets people where they are. We serve first responders, veterans, and healthcare workers who often face high-pressure environments and exposure to trauma. Our program provides a confidential, supportive setting where they can process their experiences, manage stress, and build healthier coping strategies.
We also welcome LGBTQIA+ individuals seeking mental health care that is safe, affirming, and grounded in understanding. Our clinicians are committed to providing culturally competent support that respects each person’s identity and lived experience, helping clients feel seen, heard, and empowered.
For parents, caregivers, and working professionals, our IOP offers the structure and consistency of intensive care without requiring time away from daily responsibilities. The schedule makes it easier to access support while continuing to manage work, family, and other commitments.
We also work with individuals navigating burnout, trauma, or major life transitions such as grief, divorce, career changes, or personal loss. These experiences can disrupt daily life and emotional well-being, and our program is designed to help people regain a sense of control, stability, and clarity.
No matter your path, we’ve created a space where your story is valued and your healing is guided by clinical expertise, compassion, and individualized care.
What You Can Expect
In our IOP, clients participate in group therapy, individual counseling, and skills-based learning in a structured format that promotes healing and empowerment.
What makes Northstar’s IOP effective?
- Consistency without disruption to your daily life
- Peer support in a safe, structured environment
- Evidence-based practices like CBT, DBT, and EMDR
Our IOP is led by a multidisciplinary team of clinicians with advanced degrees and licensure (MSW, LICSW, LCSW, LMHC, LADC). With expertise in trauma-informed care, EMDR, and integrative therapy models, our providers bring warmth, skill, and professionalism to every session.
